Hopefully we'll be able to include small or large versions of these areas, if not right from the get-go. Anything marked with an (X) will have multiple layers, which can hopefully be locked to the appropriate species type.
LAND Billabong Canyon Waterhole (X) Pond (X) Desert "The Bush" / Brush Grassland Plateau Woodlands Mountains Scrubland Shrubland Forest Cold Rainforest (X) Basin
MIX High Cliffs Sandy Beach
WATER Rock Outcropping Barrier Reef Ocean (Deep, Shallow, Shore) Pond (X) Waterhole (X)

I think we're going to start by just figuiring out what we want to do in terms of areas, as in making, say, the canyon a set of rooms or just one. Either way, the Billabong is going to be a set of about five, since it's going to be intended as the central gathering spot of the MUCK. After the Billabong is done, I think we're going to extend into the grasslands and then into the cliffs or the beach, and then onto the Barrier Reef, which will let us start doing the layers of the ocean. Any thoughts?

Canyon could be 3, depending on how big you want it to be in relation to the billbong. In fact, we could just measure everything off of that. How big is x compared to the billibong?

That would be a good idea barring the fact that describing a vast desert in relation to a billabong would take up way, way, way, way too much space.. like a hundred or so rooms. Same thing with the canyon. The billabong would just have areas that are more diverse within itself, which would take up more rooms.
